EMDR and Trauma
Going through my own experience of Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy was eye opening and to be honest, quite life-changing. With EMDR, we work to target triggers and memories related to emotional disturbances such as anxiety, shame, anger, and sadness, in an effort to process these feelings so they aren’t flaring up with the same intensity, if at all. I believe that EMDR is a very special approach that can have a great effect if you are suited to this type of therapy.
First we will do an assessment and history taking to see if EMDR is the right approach for you and then we build foundational regulation skills before we start targeting triggers and memories that foster trauma reactions.
If you are not particularly suited to EMDR or are looking for different approaches, I often use CBT and exposure therapies with attachment and trauma informed strategies to also help clients move through trauma.
